Ethan Nichtern on meditation as radical transformation
“
Why is it (meditation) hard? Because coming back to the moment again and again is a true revolution against habit, a rebellion against our cultural tendency to always avoid what we are feeling and experiencing. It is this chronic avoidance of ourselves (not the rigorous practice of self-awareness we do on a cushion) that lies at the core of mindless consumer culture.”

That’s so true. So many people today simple try to avoid themselves instead of getting to the bottom of their problems. Their solution? finding a shrink. I’ve been forced to go to shrinks when i was small, and the best and wisest shrink i’ve ever had was a hobo that lived on the beach in Nice, France, in front of my apartment.
